Matariki cloze activity

We had to write the word out into the yellow gaps so the reading made sense.

Matariki by Waitangi Teepa
Completed by Landon

Matariki is not only a group of stars it is also the name for theMaori New Year.

You can see the stars for most of the year but they  disappear  from the night sky in Aotearoa, New Zealand in late April and reappear in  Winter, in late May or early June . When the stars appear again and the new moon is risen it is the beginning     of the Maori New Year and there is much to celebrate.

The Seven Sisters
The Matariki group of stars has other names as well . One of its names is the Seven Sisters. In some stories Matariki is the name of the biggest star . She is the eldest sister and she guides her younger sisters to their places in the     sky   .  The old stories tell us that when the stars shine     brightly    the year will be warm . There will be    and    of seafood and plants will grow tall and strong.     .
Celebrate
We can use Matariki in many ways. It is a time for   making     family stories. It is a time for hearing      it    of the old days for learning about how people used the stars in the past. It is a time for trees and winter      crops     .  It is a time to fish. This is a time for making things, to learn how to     weave   and carve. It is a time for making and flying   kites.  . Matariki is a time to make plans for the   future    and to forgive and forget    and   problems of the    past.    . It's a time to enjoy being with our friends.

T Rex - Pobble

Once upon a time while I was walking the lonely run-down city.  I  suddenly stumbled across a T Rex.  I screamed and ran to hide behind the broken car. While I was hiding I could hear the sound of the T Rex thumping his big feet towards me.  So I quickly ran so fast and found another place to hide, it was a big tower.  Once I got to the top I could watch where the T Rex was going.  He kept thumping and roaring trying his best to find me. Then I yelled out ¨You cant get me¨ .  He turned and heard me and saw that I was up the top of the tower and he began to run towards me.  He then got to the tower and he jumped up and pulled on my legs I then fell to the ground with nowhere to go.  I was eaten up by the T Rex.

Surfing in the Sunset

After dinner, Matt, Cooper, and I went surfing.  Mum came and took some pictures. This was our first time back in the water since lockdown. I went up to my waist and jumped on my board paddling fast and I caught a few good waves.  Sometimes I fell off and the sand was soft in my toes.  Once I got out I was cold and ran back to the car, took my wetsuit off, and wrapped myself in my towel. We got back home and I had a juicy and snuggled into bed where it was warm.

Baking and Creating My Own Clay

Baking Clay

On Tuesday I made a bowl out of clay.  I had to make the mixture and then mold a shape or bowl which I wanted to paint.  Then I put it in the oven to cook, once it had cooked we let it cool down and then I painted it.  I have mine sitting in my room so I can put treasures in it.

Here is the recipe my mum, brother and i used if anyone would like to try

4 cups of flour
1 cup salt
1 1/2 cups water

Mix until it forms a dough, roll out smooth and create your masterpiece
Bake in the oven on 180dg for 1 hour.

Getting Creative During Lockdown

Getting Creative During Lockdown

During the first two weeks of being in lockdown,  myself and my brother built a hut from bamboo.  This was lots of fun as Matt had to chop all the bamboo down and then we had to gather it up and then figure out how much we would need.  Once we had finished building my brother Cooper and I set it up with blankets, sleeping bags, chairs and a table.  One night we got to have our screen time out there it was lots of fun, just a little too cold to sleep.
